Learn & Earn - Test Engineer Microfluidics (Part-time or Full-time) Internship

Hours Per Week: 20-30hours
Work Schedule: Flexible
Pay Rate and Travel Stipend: $20-25/hour and a one time travel stipend
Internship Class: If chosen for the internship, you will take the three credit INT-299 Learn and Earn internship course during fall semester (you pay for the course but if an internship course is not part of your program, we can try to see if a required course can be replaced but this is not always possible).

What we're looking for
We are currently seeking an enthusiastic, meticulous and detail orientated student to join our growing team as a Test Engineer in Microfluidics. This position could be a summer internship or a part-time position. The successful candidate will leverage their scientific background to develop and execute processes for reliable device fabrication, assembly and operation.
What you'll do
- Build, test and troubleshoot microfluidic devices. Work with the microfluidics team to assemble parts and refine SOPs for microfluidic device fabrication.
- Work in a cleanroom environment to fabricate devices, following established protocols.
- Establish and perform device quality control verification tests and procedures across assembled devices.
- Operate standard reagents using our microfluidic operation system and collect data to verify the integrity of the final microfluidic cartridge assembly.
- Develop, document, execute and analyze microfluidic testing experiments.
- Work with the biology team to create protocols for device operation, and incorporate user experience feedback in subsequent device iterations.
- Work with the engineering team to define and test operating system requirements.
- A current student in Biomedical Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science or related field.
- Demonstrated ability to be hands-on in the design, fabrication and process development of microfluidic devices and systems.
- Ability to provide feedback for the R&D and process development.
- Extremely detail oriented, with excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Excellent data analysis and critical thinking skills, specifically in the characterization of processes in the area of microfluidics or engineering R&D.
- Demonstrated ability to thrive as an independent contributor in a fast-paced, small startup team environment.
Nice to have:
- Familiar with lean room environment (class 100 & 1000).
- Research/industry experience in lab environments.
- Previous experience working in a startup environment.
- Past experience working in a biology laboratory.
- Familiar with laboratory automation and microfluidic systems or theory.
